Earthquake Disrupts Miss Asia-Pacific International Gala in Cebu

What was meant to be a glamorous evening turned tense when a strong earthquake struck during the Miss Asia-Pacific International (MAPI) 2025 Gala Night on Tuesday, September 30.

The 6.9-magnitude tremor rattled the Radisson Blu Cebu just as candidates were gathered for one of the pageant’s highlight events. Around 43 delegates, including the Philippines’ representative Anita Rose Gomez and reigning queen Janelis Leyba of the United States, were quickly escorted to safety.

In a statement, the MAPI Organization assured the public that all candidates, staff, and crew are unharmed.

“Following the 6.7-magnitude earthquake in Cebu, we would like to assure everyone that all Miss Asia-Pacific International 2025 candidates and the MAPI Organization team are safe and well. We extend our deepest gratitude to Radisson Blu Cebu for their swift and professional response in implementing safety measures during the tremor,” the group said.

Despite the disruption, organizers confirmed that the pageant will continue as scheduled, with further updates to be announced in the coming days.
