Japan’s LDP Secretary General Offers to Resign After Election Loss
Tokyo – Hiroshi Moriyama, the secretary general of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), announced on Tuesday that he plans to resign, taking responsibility for the party’s poor performance in July’s upper house election.
“I wish to resign from my position as secretary general to take responsibility for the election results,” Moriyama said.
The July 20 election was a major setback for the LDP-led coalition, which lost its majority in the upper house just months after being reduced to a minority in the lower chamber.
