Israel Strikes Yemen’s Capital Sanaa Amid Ongoing Huthi Attacks
Yemen’s Huthi rebels reported that Israel carried out an airstrike on the capital, Sanaa, on Sunday. The attack comes amid a series of missile and drone launches by the Iran-backed group against Israel during the ongoing Gaza conflict.
Huthi-run Al-Masirah TV described the strike as an “aggression on the capital,” but gave no further details. A Huthi security official told AFP that a municipal building in central Sanaa was hit, and there are reports of casualties.
The Israeli military has not commented on the strike.
Since the Israel-Hamas war began in October 2023, the Huthis have frequently launched missiles and drones at Israel in what they say is solidarity with the Palestinians. Most of these attacks have been intercepted, but they have prompted Israeli retaliatory airstrikes on Huthi targets in Yemen.
Earlier this month, on August 17, Israel said it targeted a Huthi-linked energy site in Sanaa. At the time, Al-Masirah reported that the city’s Haziz power station was hit.
