Saudi Arabia has announced new rules for distributing iftar meals during Ramadan at the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.

The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques said that while individuals and organizations are welcome to provide meals for worshippers, no advertising or promotional activity will be allowed during the process.

The authority explained that anyone wishing to take part in the initiative must first obtain a permit. Applicants must be legally registered with the proper authorities and submit detailed plans showing that their meal distribution will meet both health and Islamic guidelines.

Under the rules, meals must be handed out only in designated areas, with strict attention to cleanliness. Permits cannot be transferred to others, and only approved meals may be served.

The authority also noted that it reserves the right to revoke permits at any time. Penalties for violations will be enforced: a first offense will bring a written warning, while repeated breaches could lead to a full ban on distributing meals for the rest of Ramadan.

These measures, officials said, are meant to ensure that the spirit of Ramadan is preserved and that worshippers at the two holy mosques can break their fast in a safe, organized, and respectful environment.
