Paris: France’s football federation is set to withdraw its support for Gianni Infantino’s bid for fourth term as FIFA president, according to a report by Le Monde. The French Football Federation (FFF) is apparently refusing to support Infantino in the face of mounting criticism of his leadership and FIFA's governance.
Infantino has faced growing criticism in recent months, particularly for abandoning the FIFA Forward Enterprise initiative, which involved economic rights associated with the World Cup. UEFA and various other football organisations have also questioned his leadership ahead of the FIFA presidential election in March 2027.
The FFF has not yet formally announced its decision, citing ongoing discussions among its executive committee. France's reported change could further erode Infantino's influence in Europe, as efforts to find an alternate candidate intensify.
