Messi set to buy second Spanish club, Eldense

Madrid: Lionel Messi has secured a deal in principle to purchase 100% of Spanish second-tier team CD Eldense, expanding his burgeoning interest in sports ownership. Messi is to assume complete control of Eldense from Colombian investment business TH Soluciones business S.A.S., making it his second Spanish club ownership following UE Cornellà in April. Eldense, which currently competes in Spain's Segunda Division, has risen quickly in the football pyramid after spending years in regional leagues.

The acquisition is not yet fully completed. The deal is still subject to final legal and contractual procedures, due diligence, and obligatory approval by Spain's High Council for Sports (CSD). The club has not assigned a particular completion date.

Eldense are now 20th in the Segunda standings, and Messi's ownership is unlikely to result in significant investment on new players, given Spain's severe salary-cap laws, which limit the club's capacity to invest considerably in transfers.
