Strong Earthquakes Shake Russia’s Far East, Tsunami Alert Issued
On Sunday, three strong earthquakes hit off the coast of Russia’s far eastern region, causing concern and prompting a tsunami warning.
The first two quakes, measuring 5.0 and 6.7 in magnitude, happened earlier but didn’t raise immediate alarms. However, a much stronger earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 struck at 08:49 GMT.
Following this, the US Geological Survey issued a warning, saying that dangerous tsunami waves could occur within 300 kilometers (about 186 miles) of the quake’s epicenter near the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in the Pacific Ocean.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety.
