A tragic car accident in the United States has claimed the lives of a family of four originally from Hyderabad, India. The incident occurred as they were returning home to Dallas from a visit to relatives in Atlanta.

The deceased were identified as Venkat Bejugam, his wife Tejaswini Cholleti, and their two children, Siddarth and Mrida Bejugam, all residents of the Sutton Fields community in Aubrey, near Dallas.

According to reports, the family’s vehicle was struck head-on by a mini truck traveling in the wrong direction. The high-impact collision caused the car to burst into flames, resulting in fatal burn injuries to all four occupants. Authorities confirmed that all died on the spot.

The accident has sent shockwaves through both the Indian-American community and their hometown of Suchitra, Secunderabad, where relatives are preparing to receive the bodies for final rites.

Due to the severity of the burns, US authorities have initiated forensic identification procedures, including dental record matching and DNA testing, to conclusively establish the identities before handing over the remains to the family.

TEAM Aid, a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting expatriates in crisis, has stepped in to assist with repatriation and logistical support.

“DNA tests are under way, and once complete, the mortal remains will be brought back to Hyderabad for the last rites,” said a TEAM Aid representative.

The Indian consulate and community members in Texas are also said to be extending support to the grieving family.
