Air India Flight AI171 to London Crashes Near Ahmedabad Airport — 242 People Were Onboard

An Air India flight bound for London crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon, with over 240 people on board, including passengers and crew.

The aircraft, identified as Air India Flight 171—a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner—took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at approximately 1:10 PM. According to flight tracking data, it was scheduled to fly to London’s Gatwick Airport.

The crash occurred near the Forensic Cross Road area in Meghaninagar, Ahmedabad, close to the IGB Ground. Witnesses reported hearing a loud noise followed by a plume of thick black smoke rising from the crash site.

Emergency services, including fire brigade units and police teams, responded immediately and are currently conducting rescue and recovery operations. The Gujarat State Police Control Room confirmed the incident and said further updates will be provided as the situation develops.

The number of casualties or survivors has not yet been officially confirmed. Authorities are working to secure the area and assist any injured individuals.
