He’s scaled the Burj Khalifa, clung to the side of a flying plane, and jumped off cliffs on a motorcycle — but now Tom Cruise has taken his daredevilry to a new level, earning a Guinness World Record for a stunt that is as jaw-dropping as it is dangerous.
The 62-year-old Hollywood icon has officially been recognized for “most burning parachute jumps by an individual”, a feat performed during the filming of the recently released Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025). Cruise executed a staggering 16 jumps from a helicopter, each time strapped to a parachute that had been soaked in fuel and set ablaze mid-air. After descending through a trail of fire, Cruise cut away the scorched chute and deployed a backup to land safely — a routine that no other actor or stunt professional has ever attempted at such scale.
“Tom doesn’t just play action heroes – he is one,” said Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records. “His obsession with authenticity and his commitment to outdoing himself every time is what makes him a legend. This title is more than deserved — it’s a tribute to his fearlessness.”
A Legacy of Risk and Reward
Cruise’s reputation for performing his own stunts is not new — it’s become a signature element of the Mission: Impossible franchise. From becoming the first actor to film a HALO (high altitude, low open) jump on camera in Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018) to balancing on the wing of a biplane mid-flight, Cruise has redefined what audiences can expect from action films.
His commitment to realism and high-stakes thrills has turned the franchise into a cinematic juggernaut. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (2023) earned the highest audience scores in the series, and Fallout grossed nearly $800 million worldwide. Now, The Final Reckoning is following suit — with its record-breaking global opening on May 23, 2025, it has already become the most successful launch in the franchise’s history.
The Final Countdown?
The Final Reckoning marks the eighth installment in the long-running spy saga, once again starring Cruise as the indefatigable Ethan Hunt, who is faced with a mission that spans continents and threatens global security. From fiery skies to explosive showdowns, the film delivers all the high-octane action fans have come to expect — and more.
And if the new Guinness title is any indication, Cruise has no plans to slow down.
Whether dangling from skyscrapers or plummeting through flames, Tom Cruise continues to raise the bar — not just for action movies, but for what’s humanly possible.
