The governments of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have announced a significant new oil discovery in the North Wafra Wara-Burgan field, located approximately 5 kilometers north of the existing Wafra field within the Partitioned Zone shared by the two nations.

According to a joint statement issued by both governments, crude oil was successfully extracted from the Wara reservoir through the Wara-Burgan-1 well, with an initial flow rate exceeding 500 barrels per day. The crude has an API gravity ranging between 26 and 27 degrees, indicating medium-grade quality.

This marks the first oil discovery in the Partitioned Zone since the resumption of joint production operations in mid-2020, following a period of suspension. The restart of these operations reflected renewed collaboration between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in developing their shared hydrocarbon resources.

Officials emphasized that the discovery holds strategic importance, as it not only boosts production potential in the region but also reaffirms the two Gulf nations’ status as reliable and capable global energy suppliers. The successful outcome highlights the effectiveness of their continued exploration and development efforts in the Partitioned Zone and surrounding offshore areas.

The announcement is expected to bolster energy cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait while contributing to long-term regional energy security and supply stability.
