Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said yesterday he had discussed fresh sanctions against Russia in a meeting with Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney.
“We spoke in detail about which sanctions can be effective - including secondary sanctions, energy-related measures, and sanctions against the shadow fleet,” the Russian ships getting around existing measures, Zelensky posted on X.
Earlier, the Kremlin said a meeting between Zelensky and Russia’s Vladimir Putin was “possible” provided the two sides first reach an “agreement”, after Moscow and Kyiv held their first direct talks in more than three years.
“We consider it possible, but only as a result of the work and upon achieving certain results in the form of an agreement between the two sides,” the Kremlin’s spokesman told journalists during a briefing.
