The Arab League’s emergency summit on Gaza, originally scheduled for next week, has been postponed to March 4, Egypt announced on Tuesday.
According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, the new date was set in coordination with Arab League members to allow for "substantive and logistical preparations" ahead of the meeting.
The summit was called in response to US President Donald Trump's controversial proposal to assume control of war-ravaged Gaza and relocate its Palestinian population to other countries, including Egypt and Jordan.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is set to host a high-level meeting on Thursday, bringing together the leaders of Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates to discuss an alternative plan focused on Gaza’s reconstruction while ensuring Palestinians remain on their land.
Trump’s proposal has been widely condemned across the Arab world, leading to an unusual display of unity among Arab nations in opposition to the plan.
