A unique way of teaching

Manama: Before coming to Bahrain, Kim Ferreira was a diplomat after obtaining her Bachelor degree in Business and Administration and her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education specialising in Montessori Education with a Montessori trainer degree from Montessori Centre International, London, England.

She has been living in Bahrain for 12 years. As a married woman, Kim gets her greatest inspiration from her daughter. Her husband is always by her side as a pillar of support in her career.

Kim has been working closely with discussion leaders and needy families with their children in the Mother Child Home Education as a Programme Manager. She has worked as an Educational Researcher for two years at Bahrain Montessori Centre for Teacher Training Institute. This is now her fourth year working at the Children’s House as the school’s principal.

Kim is constantly moved and inspired by the words of Maria Montessori in her saying, “Our care of the child should be governed, not by the desire to make him learn things, but by the endeavour always to keep burning within him that light which is called intelligence.”

Passion for Montessori Education

Kim says, “When my daughter was in my womb, I always desire to be a good mom. I dreamt of nurturing my daughter’s childhood life and giving her a strong foundation in primary education.”

“The Children’s House Montessori Nursery School Bahrain was my daughter’s first school. She joined the school when she was two years old. At that time, I had completed my Montessori Diploma course. I found the Children’s House to be a really good Montessori school, where the Montessori philosophy is applied by qualified Montessori practitioners,” she elaborates.

As a principal of the Children’s House Montessori School, Kim feels she should be able to provide the essential guidance to create and maintain a vibrant and harmonious school community. “A principal must work closely with students, staff and families to create a school that is in accordance with philosophy and best practices of Montessori Education.”

The Children’s House inspires and empowers pupils with a passion for learning within an environment full of enthusiasm.

Commenting on their activities, Kim says: “We help children reach their full intellectual potential, through a wide range of educational experiences that develop skills in communication, numeracy, decision making and other intellectual, creative and physical areas. We also help them become self-disciplined, aware of their behaviour and responsibilities towards home, school and the world. In fact, we develop physical, intellectual, moral and spiritual awareness in each child.”

Montessori Education’s
philosophy

According to Kim, Montessori is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play.

“In Montessori classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the teacher offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process. Children work in groups and individually to discover and explore knowledge of the world and to develop their maximum potential,” she points out, and adds: “Montessori classrooms are beautifully crafted environments designed to meet the needs of children in a specific age range supporting an aspect of child development.”

Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that experiential learning in this type of classroom lead to a deeper understanding of language, mathematics, science, music, social interactions and much more.

Kim feels she has achieved the growing happiness and trust of the children, parents and the community. The Children’s House Montessori Nursery School Bahrain is now a member of Montessori Schools Association, UK, and will be accredited by Montessori Centre International, UK soon.

“I am with the children every single day, their good morning smiles and goodbye hugs really make my day happy. I work very closely with staff and families. I want to keep maintaining and improving the quality of learning and teaching at the Children’s House,” Kim signs off.
