British PM slams London event for booking Kanye West, sponsor quits

Pepsi has withdrawn its sponsorship of the Wireless Festival in London following backlash over the decision to feature Kanye West as the event’s headline act.

The rapper, now known as Ye, is set to perform across all three days of the popular music festival in July, sparking criticism from political leaders and community groups due to his past antisemitic remarks.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the booking as “deeply concerning,” stressing that antisemitism must be firmly challenged. Other political figures, including Ed Davey, also raised objections, with calls for stricter action.

Pepsi, previously the festival’s main sponsor, announced its withdrawal shortly after the controversy intensified. The event had been widely promoted under the brand partnership.

The festival organisers have yet to comment publicly, while discussions continue over whether West will be permitted to enter the UK for the performances.

The controversy adds to ongoing scrutiny surrounding the artist, who has faced widespread criticism in recent years over offensive statements, despite issuing public apologies earlier this year.
