BMW Unveils First Neue Klasse Model: The All-New Electric iX3
BMW has officially presented the first production model of its new “Neue Klasse” series: the all-electric BMW iX3. This new-generation Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) introduces customers to a new era of driving, combining cutting-edge technology, sustainable design, and enhanced performance.
The BMW iX3 features sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, offering a driving range of up to 805 kilometres and a peak charging rate of 400 kW. Its advanced electronics and software architecture, including four high-performance “superbrain” computers, make the vehicle smarter and more future-ready. The “Heart of Joy” drivetrain and driving dynamics management technology deliver precise handling and a dynamic driving experience, while automated driving systems improve human-vehicle interaction.
Inside, the BMW iX3 introduces the BMW Panoramic iDrive, a system designed to enhance intuitive operation and maintain the driver-focused experience BMW is known for. The interior combines spaciousness with modern design, featuring a wrap-around instrument panel, panoramic sunroof, and premium materials. Optional features include the M Sport package and custom interior designs with high-quality seat coverings.
Sustainability is a key focus of the new model, with BMW reporting a reduction of over 30% in the vehicle’s life-cycle carbon footprint compared to its predecessor.
Production of the first Neue Klasse model will take place at BMW’s new plant in Debrecen, Hungary. The BMW iX3 50 xDrive, with 469 hp and electric all-wheel drive, will be the first variant to roll off the line in autumn 2025. The European market launch is set for spring 2026, followed by the U.S. in summer 2026. A China-specific variant, produced at BMW’s Shenyang facility, will also be available from summer 2026.
“The Neue Klasse represents our biggest future-focused project, with significant advancements in technology, design, and driving experience,” said Oliver Zipse, Chairman of BMW AG. “The BMW iX3 is the first Neue Klasse model to enter production, marking the start of a new era for BMW.”
The exterior design introduces BMW’s new design language, blending timeless elegance with modern, minimalist elements. With dimensions of 4,782 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, and 1,635 mm in height, the iX3 maintains classic SAV proportions. Aerodynamic optimisations achieve a drag coefficient of 0.24, while the car offers 520 to 1,750 litres of cargo space and a 58-litre front storage compartment.
The iX3 combines the iconic BMW kidney grille and signature lighting with precise body lines, giving it a strong and athletic stance. The rear taillights extend across the vehicle’s width, providing a modern take on BMW’s classic “L” shape.
With its mix of innovation, sustainability, and premium design, the BMW iX3 sets the stage for BMW’s next generation of electric vehicles, representing a leap forward in both technology and style.
