Big win for Sparsh

Second seed Sparsh Parmar defeated the top seed Ken Belt 7-5, 6-4 in the final of the Boys 12 years and under singles yesterday on the penultimate day of the 21st Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK) Juniors Open Tennis Championship at the Bahrain Tennis Club premises in Juffair.

In a match lasting around an hour and a half, the first six games all went with serve then Sparsh won the first break of the set in the seventh and held serve in the next for a 5-3 lead.

The next game was won by Ken after saving three set points and he then effected a break to level at 5-5, however he was broken in the next game and Sparsh soon wrapped up the opening set.

The second set began with Sparsh winning an opening game break and cancelled out a break in the fifth game for a 3-2 lead and increased this to 4-2.

Ken though came back to win the next two games to level at 4-4, only for Sparsh to win a third break in the set and clinch the title on serve.

In the Boys 14 years and under singles final, unseeded Freddie Salmon defeated top seed Faisal Yousef in an error strewn match which included 12 breaks of service.

Freddie raced into a 4-0 lead in the first set and never really looked back despite Faisal clawing back to 3-4, only for his opponent to hold a rare service game then win after the next two games were breaks of service.

The second set began brightly for Faisal as he went 3-1 up before Freddie levelled at 3-3 and he finished the stronger win three of the next four games for the title.

In the Boys 14 years and under doubles final, unseeded Ken Belt and Sai Raghav Balakrishnan brushed aside top seeds Jaber Abdul A’al and Esa Al Qattan in a one-sided match 6-1, 6-1.

Patron of the event is Abdul Karim Bucheery BBK’s Chief Executive Officer and has featured more than 150 players playing in seven categories with the remaining four finals played today from 3.30pm, followed by a prize giving closing ceremony and all spectators are welcome.

Today’s schedule (All Finals): (3.30pm: Unisex 6-8 years singles.

(4pm): Unisex 9-10 years singles. Girls 18 years and under singles.

(5pm): Boys 16 years and under singles.
