Rohit Makes History at Lord's

India captain becomes first Indian batter to score an ODI century at the iconic venue with a brilliant 138 against England

India captain Rohit Sharma etched his name into the record books by becoming the first Indian batter to score a One-Day International (ODI) century at Lord's, smashing a magnificent 138 in the series-deciding third ODI against England on Sunday.

Rohit reached his century in just 84 balls, marking his 34th ODI hundred and his first in 2026. He celebrated the milestone in style by hitting England pacer Josh Tongue for back-to-back sixes before receiving a standing ovation from the Lord's crowd.

Despite battling cramp during his innings, Rohit continued to lead India's chase before eventually being dismissed for a superb 138.

Earlier, England posted a formidable 387 for three after electing to bat first. Openers Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell laid the foundation with a 192-run partnership. Duckett struck 141 off 135 balls, while Bethell narrowly missed a century with 91. Joe Root remained unbeaten on 74 as England finished strongly. Harry Brook added 14 before falling to Prasidh Krishna.

India's bowling attack was weakened by the absence of injured pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah.

In response, Rohit and Shubman Gill gave India a flying start with a 147-run opening partnership. Gill made 77 before being trapped lbw by Adil Rashid. Virat Kohli then joined Rohit at the crease, with the pair keeping India's chase on track until Rohit's dismissal ended another crucial stand.
