Bahrain Continue Gold Rush in Doha

Bahrain continued their strong momentum at the GCC Games in Doha yesterday, delivering a standout all-round performance across multiple disciplines and further cementing their status as one of the competition’s leading nations.
At the Qatar Sports Club, Bahrain enjoyed a dominant athletics session, highlighted by a commanding women’s 400m final. Oluwakemi Adekoya secured gold in 51.87 seconds, completing a Bahrain 1–2 finish ahead of Aisha Abdullah, who claimed silver. The men’s 10,000m followed a similarly controlled pattern, with Abdikani Hamid taking gold and Dawit Admasu securing silver, ahead of the UAE’s Obaid Al Nuaimi. Bahrain rounded off the track events in style, winning gold in the women’s 4x100m relay with a sharp 45.09 finish.
Success continued at the Lusail Shooting Range, where Bahrain produced one of its most decorated sessions of the Games. The women’s 10m air rifle team claimed gold with a combined score of 1863.1, powered by strong performances from Noof Khalil Al Doseri, Marwa Hamid Alamairi, and Fawzia Mohamed. Al Doseri added further distinction by winning gold in the individual final with a commanding 247.4. Bahrain also secured silver in the men’s 10m air rifle team and women’s skeet team events, while Maryam Alasam added another silver in the individual skeet.
In the pool at the Hamad Aquatics Centre, Mikhail Arkhangelskiy led Bahrain’s charge with a double gold, winning the men’s 50m backstroke in 25.47 seconds and the 100m butterfly in 53.29. In the men’s 200m breaststroke Heat 1, Saud Ghali finished first in 2:20.61, narrowly edging Qatar’s Mohamed Mahmoud (2:20.63), with Hamza Shalan also of Qatar third in 2:21.24. Robert Bonsall added a silver in the 1500m freestyle, clocking 15:45.05 behind Qatar’s Saadeddin Saadeddin.
Meanwhile at Duhail Handball Hall, Bahrain opened their qualification campaign confidently with a 30–21 win over Kuwait, leading 14–10 at halftime and maintaining control throughout. Ahmed Fadhel delivered key interventions at crucial moments, while captain Salman Al Showaikh stressed the importance of maintaining focus ahead of tougher upcoming fixtures.
In fencing, Ali Al Omari, Abdulkarim Saad, and Hamad Al Atawi produced solid performances in the men’s foil competition, helping Bahrain secure silver and continue their impressive medal haul.
At the Qatar Billiards & Snooker Federation Hall, the Yaqoob brothers impressed in group play, with Husain and Haider topping their respective pools against strong Gulf opposition. Both advanced to the semi-finals, where they narrowly missed out on the final but secured bronze medals to round off Bahrain’s campaign on a positive note.
