Kemi Adekoya set for 400m hurdles in Budapest

Bahrain’s Kemi Adekoya will line up against one of the strongest women’s 400m hurdles fields of the year tonight at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial-Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix in Budapest.

The 32-year-old will face reigning world champion Femke Bol in a nine-runner lineup at the gold-level World Athletics Continental Tour meet. Also in the field are Norway’s Amalie Iuel, Hungary’s Sara Mato, Jamaica’s Shiann Salmon, Canada’s Savannah Sutherland, Belgium’s Naomi van der Broeck, and Americans Jasmine Jones and Bianca Stubler.

This will be Adekoya’s fourth 400m hurdles appearance of the season. She recently claimed victory in Almaty with 56.04 seconds and holds a season best of 55.32, which is still short of her personal best of 53.09, the Asian and Bahraini record she set at the 2023 World Championships on the same Budapest track.

A decorated veteran, Adekoya’s résumé includes a world indoor title, multiple Asian and Arab championships, Asian Games golds, a Diamond League win, and a World Military Games gold. Tonight’s race is scheduled for 6:34 p.m. Bahrain time.
