Bahrain Sports Day brought together communities from across the Kingdom yesterday, turning Sama Bay into a hub of energy. Families, athletes, and fitness enthusiasts of all ages gathered to enjoy a day dedicated to movement, well-being, and social connection.

A Vision for an Active Bahrain

His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), highlighted the importance of integrating sports into daily life.

“Under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Bahrain continues to prioritize sports as a cornerstone of human development,” HH Shaikh Nasser stated. “This event provides an opportunity for all generations to engage in sports, reinforcing its role as a fundamental pillar of a healthy and productive society.”

Activities and Star Appearances

Sama Bay was transformed into a fitness festival, featuring interactive workouts, amateur boxing matches, and gym-style exercise stations designed to promote healthy living. The atmosphere was electric, with food stalls offering a social space for participants to refuel and relax between activities.

Adding to the excitement, His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of SCYS, Chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), was in attendance, reinforcing the Kingdom’s commitment to pushing a sporting culture.

Bahraini MMA icon Hamza Kooheji also made an appearance, inspiring young athletes with his presence and encouraging them to embrace discipline, fitness, and perseverance. His participation added a special touch to the event, particularly for aspiring fighters and sports enthusiasts. Adding to the excitement, the Bahrain national football team proudly displayed the Gulf Cup they won in December. Their presence served as a powerful reminder of the nation's sporting excellence and inspired future generations to dream big.

Coach Tony Davis on Bahrain’s Boxing Rise

Speaking exclusively to TDT, Olympic boxing coach for Bahrain, Tony Davis, praised the event’s impact on young athletes.

"This is my sixth Sports Day in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the enthusiasm here at Sama Bay is incredible," Davis said. "These events are very special because they inspire the next generation of athletes. I've never seen a national sports day like this anywhere else in the world, and I think it’s a fantastic model for other countries to follow."

Davis highlighted a remarkable transformation story—boxer Ali Asad, who first joined Bahrain’s Sports Day at 133 kg and has since dropped to 80 kg, becoming a multi-medalist and recent winner of Royal Rumble 3. "He's now here coaching younger boxers, proving how events like this can change lives," Davis added.

For the first time, an amateur boxing competition was held as part of Bahrain Sports Day, further reinforcing the Kingdom’s commitment to developing future champions. "We’ve got boxers who competed a few years ago now stepping into coaching roles, which shows the sport’s growth," Davis noted.

When asked about the future of boxing in Bahrain, Davis acknowledged the rapid rise of the sport in Saudi Arabia but remained confident in Bahrain’s position. "At the grassroots level, we currently have the best boxers in the Gulf. We came first in the World Combat Games in Riyadh. But we need to keep hosting events like this to develop not just boxers but also coaches and officials," he explained.

A Day of Unity

HH Shaikh Nasser commended the enthusiasm of participants, emphasizing that Bahrain Sports Day is about more than just exercise—it’s about bringing people together.

“The excitement and engagement we’ve seen today reflect Bahrain’s commitment to sports as a unifying force,” he said. “This is not just an event; it’s a movement that inspires healthier lifestyles and strengthens our sense of community.”

As the sun set over Sama Bay, the message was clear—Bahrain Sports Day had once again succeeded in promoting fitness, fun, and togetherness, ensuring that the spirit of sports remains at the heart of the nation’s identity.
