NMS - DPS students win accolades

New Millennium School-DPS completed another chapter in its international conferencing, this time bringing home five accolades to add to its hall of fame, straight from the Headquarters of the United Nations!

Invited by the Indian International Model United Nations (IIMUN) to its conference in the United States at the UNHQ, the NMS delegation of 23 was fortunate to have had the experience of a lifetime. It was also a proud moment for the delegation to have celebrated Indian Independence Day during the conference at the UN Head Quarters, hoisting Indian National Flag and singing the National Anthem inside the Headquarters, by the East River in New York!

The opening ceremony for IIMUN USA, started with phenomenal performances by the Indian artists - Shiamak Davar dance troupe and Rhea Hirani Shah. During the course of the three-day conference, delegates were part of heated debates and discussions not just centered around issues that threaten global peace but also at making road maps to meet the vision of a developed India, in committees including the Indian Cabinet, the Economic and Social Council, and the United Nations Security Council. The conference also saw a meeting of all its participants at the General Assembly in the very conference room of the UN, to deliberate upon Reforms in the UNSC, with specific emphasis on its membership criteria and India’s bid for a permanent seat in the council.

Standing in one of the most prestigious places in the world, feeling like real delegates working at the UN, touring its Headquarters, being an audience to the speeches of Kaushik Basu (Senior Vice- President and Chief Economist of World Bank) and Syed Akbaruddin (India’s permanent representative to UN), along with visits to the Statue of Liberty, the 9/11 Memorial, the Broadway Show and so on, was truly a dream come true for NMS students!

School Chairman Dr. Ravi Pillai, Managing Director Geetha Pillai and Principal Arun Kuumar Sharma congratulated the students, parents and the teachers in – charge Meenakshi Mathur and Yamini Ramesh for their outstanding achievements and wished the students all the success throughout their life.
