The High Criminal Court has sentenced a 50-year-old man to six months in prison for setting fire to a trash can in a residential area, causing damage to a nearby home.
According to court documents, a patrol responding to a report of a fire at an abandoned house witnessed a burning trash can near a building with no address.
Investigating the incident, they reviewed security footage from a nearby store, which showed the defendant walking past the trash can, gathering the surrounding waste, and setting it on fire.
The authorities were able to identify the defendant as the 50-year-old man.
The court found that the defendant had a history of arson offenses. His actions in this case caused damage to the wall of a nearby home.
A report from a three-member committee of psychiatric consultants, submitted to the court, concluded that the defendant was responsible for his actions at the time of the incident.
The court sentenced the defendant to six months in prison for the arson offense and ordered him to compensate the homeowner for the damage caused to their property.
