Tackle unemployment issue : Bahrain MP

parliamentarian urgently called upon a greater effort from the Labour and Social Development Ministry to solve the problems faced by a group of unemployed Bahraini citizens.

Indicating that the number of unemployed graduates in the Kingdom is less than 90, Deputy Chairman of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee of the Council of Representatives, MP Jalal Kadhim Al Mahfoodh, called for speedy action to clear the files of the unemployed stuck for over a year. The unemployed list has the names of 1,912 Bahrain citizens.

MP Al Mahfoodh, in a meeting with a group of unemployed people in his office, on Thursday explained that as a solution, they could be provided alternative employment or rehabilitated.

“They are Bahraini nationals and they have families, financial commitments like loans. The matter requires a speedy solution,” he added.

Al Mahfoodh also said the Ministry should make continuous efforts to provide degree-holders stable jobs, especially in the private sector, as the Cabinet had decided in January to consider this after a Civil Service Bureau proposed various employment possibilities for university graduates.

He also submitted a proposal to the Council of Representatives to consider re-recruiting or suggesting alternate jobs for those who had been trainees in the government and private sector. The proposal will be referred to the government to take a decision.

He said the government should break the silence in the issue that is crucial in securing the career and lives of Bahrainis.
