His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa yesterday reiterated Bahrain’s commitment to ensuring “freedoms and human rights”, which HRH identified as “core values of the Kingdom.” “These values are incorporated in all policies, initiatives and programmes, thanks to the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa,” said the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The comments were in light of Bahrain retaining its Tier 1 Status in Trafficking in Persons in the US Department of State report for the fifth consecutive year. HRH Prince Salman highlighted the achievement as a “notable success for Team Bahrain.”

The report has said that the “Government of Bahrain fully meets the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking.” “The government continued to demonstrate serious and sustained efforts during the reporting period, considering the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on its anti-trafficking capacity; therefore, Bahrain remained on Tier 1,” US Statement Department added.

The report also highlighted the reinstatement of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, (NCCTIP) after a one-year hiatus, which is expected to create a new national action plan by the end of 2022.

Terming the rating as the “highest international annual rating in government anti-trafficking performance”, HRH Prince Salman commended the officials and the government agencies that worked year on year to strengthen efforts in combatting human trafficking.

His Royal Highness said this during talks with the Labour Minister, Jameel Humaidan and Chairman of the National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons, Jamal Abdulaziz Al Alawi, at Gudaibiya Palace. Humaidan and Al Alawi thanked the ongoing support of His Royal Highness for efforts in combating trafficking in persons. Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Hamad bin Faisal Al Malki, attended the meeting.
