Bahrain has a total of 274,733 buildings

The total number of buildings in the Kingdom of Bahrain has reached 274,733, including 137,284 villas. According to official statistics issued by the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA), the buildings include 12,178 oriental houses and 7,540 traditional homes.

There are 70,602 buildings classified under the shop/store category, in addition to 7,753 institutional buildings and 4,253 buildings classified under the “others” category.

With regard to the type of ownership, the statistics show that 211,437 buildings are owned by individuals, 15,222 are owned by the private sector, and 38,953 buildings are owned by the public sector, in addition to 1,696 buildings for a common sector.

There are 199,594 residential unit buildings, or 72.6% of the total number of buildings, while there are 75,139 non-residential buildings, including 68,498 commercial buildings and 6,641 non-commercial buildings.

With regard to the distribution of buildings according to governorates, the statistics show that there are 84,421 buildings in the Capital Governorate and 54,770 in Muharraq.

The Northern Governorate tops the statistics with 84,982 buildings, while in the Southern Governorate, there are 50,560 buildings.
