Star rating cards to be made mandatory for ACs

Manama

Air conditioners will now be available with its energy efficiency stated in star system, following the new decree issued by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. The move comes as a means to reduce energy consumption of air conditioners in the Kingdom.

According to this system, the machines bearing more number of stars give higher efficiency, with 6 stars giving the best.

The Director of Standardization and Metrology Mona Alzeera said the regulation is another success for Bahrain in energy saving and environmental protection.

“The system helps reduce electricity bill and loads on power network,” she said.

The new regulation will come into force on February 20, next year.

It would give a period of 6 months to enable importers and manufacturers of air conditioners to meet regulation requirements.

It should be noted that the Directorate of Standardization and Metrology will check in the customs ports the pre-registration for air conditioners and the efficiency card.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce called upon all traders concerned to initiate the necessary measures to avoid rejection of shipments.
