'No smoking campaign' launched
HH Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Southern Governor, yesterday launched "no smoking" campaign to coincide with 'International Day against Cancer' in the presence of Colonel Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalid Al Khalifa, Director-General of the Southern Governorate Police Directorate and Dr Maryam Al Hajri, Assistant Undersecretary with the Health Ministry and a number of senior officials.
The inauguration ceremony began with the display of an awareness film on how to combat the scourge of smoking, followed by a detailed explanation by Ali Al Aradi, Public Health Specialist at the Ministry of Health, where he explained the health issues resulting from smoking and the methods of proper control.
The event also included an exhibition explaining the information about the effects of smoking and its relation to other diseases and the impact of passive smoking on non-smokers. It also briefed about the latest drugs that help to quit smoking.
