Drug peddling: Two Asians get 1 year jail

Manama

Two Asians, who were caught peddling drugs, will be jailed for one year followed by immediate deportation, after the Lower Criminal Court held them guilty.

The defendants were arrested in aseparate sting operations following a tip-off to the anti-narcotic department at the Ministry of Interior. The first defendant was initially arrested after an undercover agent deceived him to sell a marijuana cigarette for BD5. The duo met at the Exhibition road, where police pounced soon after the delivery.

The second defendant’s involvement in this illicit activity came to light after his co-defendant tipped-off the police about him. “I am not the only one selling drugs. I am receiving them from another man. And I’m ready to help you capture him,” the first defendant said in his statement.

Police officers allowed the defendant to contact the second  accused and lured him into peddling three marijuana cigarettes.  He was later nabbed near Awal Cinema, while he was handing over the package. Both defendants’ drug test results came positive to different type of illicit substances. They were also slapped with fines of BD1,000 each.
