Private Jet Crash in Mexico Claims 7 Lives: Emergency Landing Gone Wrong
Mexico City: A devastating plane crash occurred in central Mexico, claiming the lives of at least seven people. The private jet, carrying eight passengers and two crew members, was attempting an emergency landing in San Mateo Atenco, an industrial area near Toluca airport, approximately 50 kilometres west of Mexico City.
The aircraft had departed from Acapulco, on Mexico's Pacific coast, before encountering difficulties, prompting the emergency landing attempt. Tragically, the plane struck the metal roof of a nearby business instead of landing on a soccer field, triggering a massive fire.
Rescue workers were quickly deployed to the scene, where they found scorched grass and debris. Mexico State Civil Protection Coordinator Adrián Hernández reported that only seven bodies had been recovered hours after the crash, leaving uncertainty about the fate of the remaining occupants.
The incident prompted the evacuation of around 130 people from the surrounding area, as confirmed by San Mateo Atenco Mayor Ana Muñiz. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, with no preliminary findings released yet.
