Saar Street development project partially completed

Forty-six per cent of Saar Street development project has been completed, the Works Ministry said in a statement issued yesterday. The BD 2,850,975 project is scheduled to complete by the end of the year. The head of project management and road maintenance at the ministry, Sayed Bader Alawi said that the project involves street expansion by 3.895km to become a two-way road of two lanes within a width of seven meters in every direction.

“The ministry also made 400 car parks along the street, alongside making four service streets with shops. “There will also be a pedestrian walkway on the side of the street on both ways along the street.” Alawi added that the project will consist of creating new rain drainage networks, new lightning networks, in addition to further security and development of water, electricity and communication in co-operation with the concerned departments, and ground canals will also be implemented for future use.

Public transport stations will be made in co-operation with Transportation Ministry as well as the necessary traffic signs and lights to ensure safety on the street. Alawi explained that there are many residential blocks and establishments around the project, aside from the traffic of Al A’ali and the many pedestrians and bicycles and the entrances to the residential areas on the side of the street.

“This is necessary, and it will use a special strategy of work division to be in accordance with the Traffic Movement Management and to ensure a consistent workflow,” he added. Works Ministry aims to improve the traffic movement through the development of Saar Street and to increase traffic security through it, as well as organising the movement of vehicles and pedestrians and increasing the capacity of the street by double, the statement added.
