RCSI Bahrain receives HEC, BQA awards

The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain) has further strengthened its position and reputation as a regional leader in healthcare education with further endorsements by Bahrain’s Higher Education Council (HEC) and the Bahrain Education and Training Quality Authority (BQA). A busy few months for RCSI Bahrain’s Quality Enhancement team was duly rewarded, firstly in the presentation of the Institutional Accreditation Certificate from the HEC.

The certificate was presented by the Minister of Education and Chairman of the HEC, Dr Majed bin Ali Al-Noaimi, during a formal ceremony at the Ministry of Education in Isa Town recently. The accreditation will last for an initial period of four years – the maximum period awarded – and supports the vision of the national development strategy, Economic Vision 2030, in developing Bahrain as a regional hub for quality higher education.

Speaking on the occasion of the HEC presentation, RCSI Bahrain President, Professor Sameer Otoom, acknowledged the immense support RCSI Bahrain has received from the HEC over a number of years. He said this achievement was another important milestone in RCSI Bahrain’s pursuance of excellence in higher education, and extended his appreciation to His Excellency the Minister of Education and all the members of the accreditation committee.

In addition, RCSI Bahrain has also received a positive Quality Review outcome from the Bahrain Education and Training Quality Authority (BQA), part of the Supreme Council for Education and Training Development for the next five years. The certificate was presented to Prof Otoom by BQA Chief Executive Officer, Dr Jawaher Al-Mudhahki, in the presence of fellow BQA delegates and senior RCSI Bahrain officials, during a special meeting at the University’s Busaiteen campus.

On this occasion, Professor Otoom thanked Dr Al-Mudhaki and all BQA representatives for their efforts in making the process a success, while also acknowledging the authority’s unwavering commitment to higher education standards in Bahrain.
