Footage of rape uploaded online

A 20-year-old person shared online a footage showing him raping a teenager, following which, he was arrested.
The young Bahraini appeared yesterday for the first time at the High Criminal Court, facing rape charge.
The accused met his victim in a restaurant in 2011 and got acquainted with her on Facebook, according to court files.
During one of their dates, he allegedly stole her phone’s memory card and then threatened her that he would upload her personal pictures online if she refuses to have sex with him. Scared, the girl reportedly accepted and went with him to an apartment. Here he raped her and also brutally assaulted her, according to court files.
“Three years later, I received a call from someone who claimed to be his friend. He told me he would distribute a footage of me having sex with him (the accused). I didn’t know there was a camera in the apartment,” the 18-year-old girl said.
The accused, however, denied forcefully having sex with her, claiming it was consensual. He was ordered yesterday to be remanded in police custody for 15 days, pending investigations.
