Masked robber steals cash from supermarket

Manama

A masked robber made off over BD 500 from a 24 hours supermarket located next to a petrol pump in Zayed Town recently. The ‘bat-wielding’ robber threatened to physically harm the store clerk during the robbery. Confirming the incident, the Interior Ministry announced that an investigation has been launched to arrest the culprit.

An official from Jawad Business Group, which owns the 24 hours supermarket, told DT News that over BD 500 was robbed and the store clerk did not sustain any injuries in the robbery attempt.

“He also stole some inventory from the shop. From the CCTV footage, we can see that our employee was not physically harmed,” the
official said.  A source said that there are rumours about the robber’s familiarity of the store.

“After the store clerk handed over the cash, which was inside the cash register, the robber immediately demanded money from the vault. It is interesting that he knew about the safe and where it was,” the source added.

But the Jawad Business Group spokesperson declined to comment on this version.

“There is no clue yet about the robber. The police are investigating the matter,” the supermarket official  clarified.

“He was wearing a mask, black head cover and gloves. After taking the money, he took the mobile phone of the clerk to destroy it to prevent him from calling the police and he also destroyed the store’s telephone,” source added.
