Carrefour alerts on spoiled cheese

Manama

notice on contaminated cheese sold in a prominent hypermarket was circulated on social media eventually alerted the people of Bahrain. The notice seemingly first appeared in the markets in Saudi Arabia.

The Carrefour notice alerted buyers to return the product or consult a doctor if any fever or headache symptoms occur from its consumption.

However, Health Ministry confirmed that they took immediate action to remove cheese products that contain the contaminant.

Head of food safety and licensing at the Department of Food Control, Faisal Al Sari confirmed that the market was free from “Beryl” cheese products, which contain the bacteria known as “Listeria monocytogenes”.

He pointed out that Carrefour had withdrawn all of the products produced in France and prevented it from reaching the parent company. They also withdrew the boxes of the product in Bahrain.

Al Sari pointed out that all precautionary measures were taken by the inspectors. Citizens had been asked to contact the food safety hotline number (Ph:39427743) in case of any complaints.
