BIC ready to welcome motorsport world

Manama : Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) is ready to welcome the world of motorsport for this weekend’s Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, and members of the Formula 1 family have already begun arriving on the island. 

Amongst those spotted at Bahrain International Airport were Sauber’s Swedish driver Marcus Ericsson, as well as officials from all Formula teams and the International Automobile Federation (FIA).

 They were welcomed upon reaching the island by BIC’s Meet and Greet Staff, who assisted them with their arrival formalities.

 “The weekend we have all been waiting for is just a few days away and things are getting busier by the day in our final lead-up to the big race,” commented BIC Chief Executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa. 

“The global spotlight is once again focused on Bahrain and we, as the host country and as a circuit, are excited to deliver this world-class event. 

“The facilities are ready, all the necessary preparations have been completed and all there is left to do is for our guests from Formula 1, the supporting championships and in the vending area to finalise their set-up for the weekend. “We extend a warm Bahraini welcome to all those who are coming to Bahrain from overseas and we look forward to sharing this wonderful occasion with you.

 “It is our time to shine and we can’t wait to showcase the very best of what we have to offer.” All sorts of upgrades, maintenance, and set-up work has been done across the Sakhir facility in preparation for the Friday to Sundayspectacle.

Scrubbing, hydro-blasting, power washing and painting were carried out along BIC’s 5.412-kilometre Grand Prix track, while canopies were washed and seats individually cleaned on each of the five strategically positioned grandstands.

 With the Formula 1 family now in town, things are beginning to take shape in the BIC Paddock where each of the top flight’s teams will be calling home for the duration of the Grand Prix. 

Work is already going on day and night at BIC and things are about to pick up even more over the next few days circuit-wide, with more Formula 1 personnel arriving and a wide host of other staff all setting up.

 The Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix is the second of 21 rounds on the 2018 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.
