GPIC’s Fatima wins award for leadership excellence

Manama : Fatima Sherif at the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) has received the Excellence in Leadership Among Women Award.

The award was presented at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel to coincide with the Middle East Process Engineering Conference (MEPC) 2017.

The event was held in Bahrain from October 9 to 11 under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister.

Minister of Oil Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa and GPIC Board of Directors Chairman Dr. Ahmed Al Shariyan were among the guests present at the event.

Sherif was awarded for her exceptional performance and passion for leadership. She joined the company in 2003 after earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of
Bahrain.

She continued developing her leadership skills during her work in various departments, which prompted her to take part in intensive training programmes.

She has also been active in various projects and strategic committees within the company.

GPIC President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery expressed pride in Sherif’s achievement and said she proved her exceptional ability to lead in the work environment and was able to draw attention to her professionalism and efficiency.

He said the company has implemented the directives of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa for the empowerment of women, in recognition of her well-established policies. The most important of these, she said, is her initiative to establish the Council for Equal Opportunities for Women’s Empowerment in Industry and Leadership.

The fourth edition of the conference was held under the theme “Sustainable growth through innovation and integration in refining and petrochemical
operations”.

It was organised with the support of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and in cooperation with the National Oil and Gas Authority.

Around 350 companies from the oil and gas and petrochemicals sectors all over the world took part in this conference.
