Robber who dressed as a soldier to learn his fate

Manama : A man who robbed an exchange house in the Southern Governorate, disguising himself as a soldier, will learn his fate in October.

The accused, a Pakistan national, robbed BD2,700 from a Finance Company in the East Riffa in April after disguising himself as a Bahrain Defence Force soldier. He also threatened the employees there with a plastic pistol,  according to the case files at the First High Criminal Court.

The judges on Wednesday heard the testimonies of the man and witnesses and adjourned the case to October 26 to give the verdict.

The suspect, police said, was arrested within 24 hours of committing the crime with BD500 in his possession.

When arrested, the accused, a 28-year-old, told the investigators that he stole a uniform that was hung outside a house to disguise himself as a soldier and that he had sent the rest of the amount, BD2,200, to Pakistan.

He also told the investigators that he painted the plastic gun to give it a more realistic look to intimidate the employees at the exchange house.

The man said he was going through a financial crisis and was trying to pay back his debts.

The defendant was charged with armed robbery and stealing an identity card to remit the stolen money.
