A Bahraini delegation, headed by Social Development Minister, Faeqa bint Saeed Al Saleh will attend the third international conference on financing for development, beginning today in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Addressing media yesterday, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Peter Grohmann said issues related to financing sustainable development would be discussed during the event and the final outcome will have a positive impact on all countries, including Bahrain.

Issues related to job creation, sustainable management of resources like energy and water, quality of education and matching education with the industry needs are the major goals to be achieved by all the countries. Bahrain has put enough efforts to achieve these goals, he said.

Bahrain developed the economic vision 2030 that coincides with the target date of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Bahraini parliament recently approved the Government Plan 2015-18 that already addresses many priorities that would help achieve the SDGs in many areas.

Once the future targets are defined, it is important that the investments necessary to achieve the SDGs relevant to Bahrain are incorporated into the national budget, he said.

Meanwhile, he highlighted the success of second session of the Arab High Level Forum on Sustainable Development, held in Manama in last May.

“Bahrain played an important role during the forum, which recommended 17 SDGs. This September, the United Nations will host a summit to adopt an ambitious and transformative sustainable development agenda, including the SDGs,” the UN Resident Coordinator said.

Acting Director of UNIC Manama, Samir Aldarabi was also present on the occasion.

High-level political representatives, minister of finance, foreign affairs and development cooperation, and all relevant institutional stakeholders, non-

governmental organisations and business sector entities will attend the conference, which would conclude on Thursday.
