His Excellency Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain’s assumption of the presidency of the United Nations Security Council for April 2026 represents a significant historic milestone in its diplomatic journey and its leading contributions to strengthening international peace and security. This comes under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The Foreign Minister expressed deep pride in this high-level international responsibility undertaken by the Kingdom, which coincides with its rotating presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and its chairmanship of the Ministerial Council of the League of Arab States at its 165th session. He noted that this reflects the international confidence in Bahrain’s balanced foreign policy under the leadership of His Majesty the King and its firm commitment to coordinating Gulf and Arab positions and strengthening international solidarity for the benefit of humanity.
His Excellency highlighted that Bahrain’s active diplomatic presence provides a strategic opportunity to reinforce adherence to regional and international charters by upholding the principles of national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs, as well as promoting comprehensive and sustainable peaceful solutions to conflicts. He also emphasized the importance of ensuring maritime safety and freedom of navigation, safeguarding energy supplies and global trade, and combating terrorism to enhance regional and international security and stability.
He further underscored Bahrain’s diplomatic success in mobilizing international support to condemn Iran’s attacks on the territories of GCC member states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, through United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, co-sponsored by 136 countries, as well as a unanimous resolution by the Human Rights Council supported by 115 countries. Both resolutions called on Iran to immediately cease its unjustified attacks, describing them as serious violations of national sovereignty and territorial integrity, a grave threat to regional and international peace and security, and a blatant breach of international law and international humanitarian law.
In conclusion, Dr. Al Zayani affirmed Bahrain’s commitment, through its presidency of the Security Council, to promoting dialogue, understanding, and international partnership in order to strengthen security and stability, ensure the safety of international navigation, and reinforce the interconnection between peace, security, sustainable development, and human rights as fundamental pillars of the United Nations system, with the aim of achieving a safe and stable region and a world marked by coexistence and prosperity.
