Bahrain’s High Criminal Court sentenced a nurse to 10 years in prison and fined her BHD 5,000 after convicting her of exploiting a disabled man under her care, stealing his mobile phone, and transferring funds from his bank account. The court also ordered her deportation upon completion of the sentence.
The defendant was found guilty of transferring a total of BHD 25,750 from the victim’s bank account to her mobile phone and subsequently to her personal account in her home country in Asia. She later returned BHD 3,500 but failed to repay the remaining amount.
Prosecutors charged the defendant with fraudulently using the victim’s electronic signature specifically the verification code linked to the BenefitPay application connected to his bank account to unlawfully seize the funds. She was also charged with illegally accessing an information system and inputting false data to facilitate the transfers.
According to testimony from the victim’s son, he discovered multiple unauthorized transactions totaling BHD 25,750 transferred from his father’s account to the nurse’s account between September and October 2025.
The defendant admitted to taking the victim’s phone without his knowledge, using the banking application to transfer the funds in installments to her account in Bahrain before transferring the full amount abroad. She acknowledged exploiting the victim’s condition and later returning part of the money but not the full amount.
Bank records confirmed that the transactions were conducted using the victim’s phone, with verification codes sent to a number linked to the defendant, and that the device used for the transfers was associated with her.
The court found the evidence sufficient to convict, issuing a custodial sentence, financial penalty, and deportation order.
