“This year, I personally saw something unique. The youth through their art have raised concerns about smoking and addiction. And, awareness about these topics are really necessary for students in the higher education due to the fast changing culture of the society,” said Dr Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi.

“This event is an example of building links of partnership between the private universities and government schools. My gratitude is to the Minister of Education for joining us. It is amazing to see the young generation raising the health problems affecting the country through art and would like to extend best wishes to the winners,” said RCSI Bahrain President, Professor Sameer Otoom. The Health Awareness Awards are based on an art competition for secondary schools. It is organised by RCSI Bahrain’s Community Engagement department, in partnership with the Ministry of Education. The entrants are tasked with creating a piece of art reflecting a health theme affecting local communities, with chosen subjects including obesity, diabetes, smoking, road safety and genetic illnesses. The main aim of the event is to generate awareness among high school students of such prevalent health issues.
