More pools for citizens to unwind

Manama : Bahrain will soon have several swimming pools in all four governorates, according to Shura Council and Representatives Council Affairs Minister Ghanem Al Buainain.  Confirming the construction of  three semi-Olympic swimming pools in the Northern, Southern and Muharraq Governorates, the minister said the decision comes after a proposal was submitted by a group of MPs in late 2015 requesting the Government to establish swimming pools for public with Olympic standards.
“The pools will be opened in Hamad Town, Riffa and Muharraq,” the minister said adding, the matter will be taken up during the upcoming weekly parliament meeting on Tuesday.
Al Buainain also informed that there is only one Olympic swimming pool in the country, located in Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town. He said that semi-Olympic pools were recently established in Sitra Club and Al Hala area in Muharraq.
The proposal for the construction of four public swimming pools, one in each governorate with Olympic specifications, was passed by the majority MPs in late 2015. These facilities would allow the youth develop their mental and physical skills and abilities, the MPs had told parliament then.
“This would contribute in protecting the youth from engaging in unwanted behaviours and illegal activities,” the MPs had informed the government.
