“King of Desert” to light up BIC

Manama : For the first time ever in the history of Bahrain motorsport, an international pro drifting event will be taking place in Sakhir, taking place tomorrow and Friday at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir featuring drifters from around the globe.

Entitled “King of Desert”, this two-day drifting championship is a part of BIC’s Race Fever programme, a month-long series of exciting events organised by BIC as part of the lead-up to the 2017 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.

This highly anticipated race weekend is now just 30 days and scheduled to take place April 14 to 16 at BIC.

The “King of Desert” will be held from BIC’s Michael Schumacher Turn (Turn One) to Turn Three.

Action begins tomorrow with Free Practice from 3pm to 9pm. Then on Friday, following another Free Practice between 2.30pm and 3.30pm, qualifications are from 4pm to 6pm and a top 32 final held from 7pm to 10pm.

All those with tickets to this year’s Grand Prix will be able to watch both days without any additional cost. Tickets will also be available at the gate at BD5 each for both days. Fans will be able to watch all the action from the Turn One Grandstand and the University Grandstands.

Race Fever kicked off on Monday night a live music performance by Bryan Adams, attracting thousands of fans.

The Bahrain event is part of a “King of Desert” regional calendar in which professional drifting teams from around the world, including over 20 from the Gulf alone, are contesting. Other stops in the GCC are in Muscat and Abu Dhabi, with Bahrain being the final
event.

Known on the global scale as “Drift King of Nations Pro Series”, the championship also holds events in Europe, South America, South Africa, Australia and Asia.

The Pro Series is recognised as one of the world’s leading professional drifting championships and boasts some of the youngest talented drivers was born in the Japanese mountains and established as a sport by Keiichi Tsuchiya in the 1980s, Also during the “King of Desert” event, Race Fever Game Zone will be welcoming fans and giving them a fun interactive experience.

Race Fever continues with a Neon Run on March 24 and Formula 2 (newly rebranded from GP2 Series) Testing on March 30 and 31. Race Fever Game Zone will also be open on those days.
