BBK tennis: Quarter finals begin

ManamaEight players from both the Unisex 10 years and under and 8 years and under categories have qualified for today’s quarter finals starting at 4pm following the First round and a Round of 16 yesterday on the seventh day of the 22nd Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK) Juniors Open Tennis Championship 2017 at the Bahrain Tennis Club (BTC) premises in Juffair.

With the threat of rain subsiding in the afternoon, the Unisex 10 years and under category, top seed Tristan Manners advanced after receiving a walkover win from Hana Hammad, while second seed Rushikesh Sonawane brushed aside Maidson Mordecai 6-1 games.

The closest matches saw Essam Janahi edge out Zaidan Hajjar 6-5, with 6-4 wins for Isa Al Qattan against Rohan Mukherjee and Mohammed Al Huda against Yousef Al Shehabi.

In other matches, Maro Ugarkovic was a comfortable 6-2 winner over Altair Marat, Eira Corral won 6-1 against Shevani Vinod and Isa Sarwani beat Aruni Choudhary 6-0.

The Unisex 8 years and under saw top seed Riyaan Ahmed winning 4-0 games against Veer Ayush Vanka and the second seed Joshua Jacob a 4-0 winner over Aayan Asad.

In the closest match, Arseniy Tsiolta was a 4-3 winner over Nour Osama, while there were 4-2 wins for Raksha Baharathy over Bouchra Hajjar and Chole Elkara against Saharash Nouli.

Other winners were Dhruv Karia by 4-1 against Taruna Kennedy 4-1, Marwan Janahi 4-0 against Omar Bader 4-0 and Lucy Thate received a walkover win Rion Joy.

None of the four qualifiers in each of the 8 and 10 years under categories made it past the first round of 32 in the main competition.

Meanwhile, today the quarter finals and semi-finals will be played from 4pm in the Unisex 10 and 8 years under with the Girls Under-18 Singles final between top seed Manni Zhang and second seed Aleina Alex at 5pm.

This championship is being held under the patronage of BBK Chief Executive Officer, Reyadh Yousif Sater with around 60 players in the five main singles events - Boys U12 years, U14 and U18 years and under and Girls 14 years and under and U18 which continues until Tuesday and 90 in the Unisex categories.
