‘Naval support facility to boost ties with Kingdom’

ManamaThe naval support facility represents an important moment in Bahrain’s long-standing defence and security ties with the UK and demonstrates both countries’ firm commitment to protecting regional stability and security, according to Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The statements were made as the Crown Prince along with the Prince of Wales visited the UK naval support facility in Mina Salman yesterday, where an official ceremony was held to inaugurate the Welfare block.

Speaking on the occasion, the Crown Prince underscored the vital role the facility will play in expanding the capacity of joint UK-Bahrain naval operations. 

The visit also included a tour around HMS Middleton, a British Royal Navy Hunt-Class mine countermeasures vessel.

BDF Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who has received training by the British Royal Navy, Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and
the Royal Bahrain Naval Force Commander, Rear Admiral Shaikh Khalifa bin Abdulla Al Khalifa were also present.

On the sidelines of boosting the strong cultural ties that exist between Bahrain and the UK, Prince of Wales also visited the Grand Al Fateh Mosque, Bahrain’s largest place of worship.

Prince Charles also attended a workshop alongside a group of students from the University of Bahrain, during his visit to the Isa Cultural Centre here.

He viewed creative work by Bahraini graduates from the Prince’s School for Traditional Arts (P.S.T.A) as well as historic documents which mark the 
long-standing cultural relations between Bahrain and Britain.

The Prince of Wales was received by Dr. Shaikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Executive Director of Isa Cultural Centre. Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa was also present.

Following the workshop, Prince Charles met Sara Al Zayani, the first Bahraini graduate from the Prince’s School for Traditional Arts (P.S.T.A).

Postage stamps unveiled

Manama : Postage stamps marking the 200th anniversary of Bahrain-UK ties were unveiled by the Prince of Wales during his visit to the Post Office Museum here. 

On the occasion, a commemorative gift was handed over by the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications Kamal   Ahmed to Prince Charles in honour of the visit. 

During the tour, the Minister provided the Prince of Wales with an overview of the museum, and shared historical moments of Bahrain’s postage heritage.
