A boost for ties

Bangkok : Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has urged to stand decisively against laws encroaching on countries’ sovereign immunity. “They are a source of great concern for the international community due to their repercussions on international relations and cooperation,” Prince Khalifa remarked.

HRH Premier, who is in Bangkok to attend the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) summit, was speaking during his meeting with Thailand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha in the Thai Government headquarters here yesterday. Earlier, the Premier was received by the Thai Premier and senior officials.

During the meeting, both the leaders stressed the rejection of any dictated policies pertaining to the internal affairs of countries, and called for maintaining social cohesion. They also underscored keenness on ramping up bilateral relations, mainly in the political, economic and social fields.

Expressing their satisfaction at the growing relations between the two countries, they urged to activate agreements and joint committees to further promote trade cooperation and joint ventures. 

The Prime Minister expressed in the Visitors’ Book at the Thai Government’s headquarters his appreciation of the advanced level of bilateral relations and keenness to boost them at all levels. Prince Khalifa also presented Chan-o-cha with an invitation to visit Bahrain.

Later, a session of official talks was held between the Bahraini and Thai sides under the chairmanship of the two Prime Ministers. Both the sides reviewed tourism cooperation, mainly therapeutic tourism, with an increase in the number of Bahraini people visiting Thailand as a therapeutic destination. 

They also spotlighted bilateral cooperation in the cultural and educational fields, stressing its importance in enriching knowledge. The two nations also agreed to promote cooperation in the transportation sector for its positive impact on tourism. 

While discussing regional and international situation, the officials of both sides stressed the need to further consolidate cooperation between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
