Manama
As part of improving infrastructure at Isa Town, the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning has implemented a bunch of development projects in all sectors.
The projects aim to achieve sustainability and complement the Government’s vision to provide better services to citizens and residents.
The Ministry’s Undersecretary Eng. Ahmed Al Khayyat explained the Ministry has implemented many development projects, in line with directives from HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, to develop, maintain and renovate Isa Town.
Projects include revamping secondary roads to cope with the residential density, enhancing the capacity of the roads and increasing traffic safety.
The Ministry recently revamped Avenue 5, which connects Muscat Avenue to Doha Avenue. Work comprised mainly of re-constructing and revamping the avenue with two lanes to each direction, organizing the intersections between the internal roads by constructing 2 roundabouts, constructing parking spaces on the sides of the avenue, protecting existing services along with the concerned entities (Electricity, water and sewerage services), implementing ground channels and a storm water drainage network.
Works also included paving works and creating pedestrian pavements, installing signs and lighting.
The Ministry also revamped a part of Abu Dhabi Avenue, located between Estiqlal Highway and Jerusalem Avenue. Work here comprised of expanding the avenue into 3 lanes, installing a pedestrian traffic signal and implementing safety and pedestrian barriers.
Al Khayyat added the Ministry has also revamped Algeria Avenue (connecting Blocks 804 and 810), Tunisia Avenue (connecting Blocks 803 and 805) and Al Khartoom Avenue (connecting Blocks 804 and 805).
The Ministry said it revamped Beirut Avenue, which serves Isa Town Intermediate School for Girls, Road 702 and other roads in the vicinity. The Ministry also maintained Riyadh Avenue, improved the internal roads, and is presently revamping other roads in the area.
Works primarily included repaving roads with asphalt, implementing bricks along pavements, implementing drainage system and lighting.
Previously, the Ministry installed a traffic signal along the interchange of Baghdad Avenue with the entrance leading to Isa Town Block. Another traffic signal was also installed along the interchange of Damascus Avenue and Cairo Avenue.
Al Khayyat added the development works included construction of 830 parking spaces on either sides of the roads, residential blocks, near schools, mosques and commercial stores.
Al Khayyat stated Isa Town was not equipped with storm water drainage networks since its establishment. However, the Ministry is planning to implement a storm water drainage network that suits the geographical nature of Isa Town.
