Illegal workers arrested in Bahrain

ManamaAs many as 47 people have been arrested in a massive raid to curb illegal employment in Southern Governorate recently. According to a statement by the Interior Ministry yesterday, the free visa workers were arrested following inspection campaigns conducted in concert with concerned authorities, to ensure the safety of citizens and residents.

Quoting Southern Governorate Governor Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa, the Ministry said: “The governor announced the arrest of 47 illegal workers in one of the largest security inspection campaigns in the governorate on Sunday. It’s as part of the activities of the Committee formed to inspect violations of street vendors and shops.” 

The Ministry revealed that an inspection was conducted in the scrap yard area near Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) factory under the supervision of the security coordination officer at the governorate, Major Fahad Ali Khalifa, in cooperation with Southern Governorate Police, Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), the General Directorate of Civil Defence and Southern Area Municipality. 

During the raid, unsafely stored inflammable items, violations of residency regulations, poor working conditions at the scrap yard, utilising the scrap yard as a residential area and unsafe electricity wirings were found.

The inspection campaigns are being conducted in the four governorates of the Kingdom as per the directives of Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.
