BSPCA rescues duck from sewer pipe

Manama: The Bahrain Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) has saved the life of a pet duck that was stuck in a sewer pipe, following a two-hour-long rescue procedure.

A family reached out to BSPCA after their pet duck was found stuck in a sewer pipe. The incident took place on Thursday at the family’s residence in Seraya.

In a statement released yesterday, the society confirmed that the duck has escaped without sustaining any injuries. The family first contacted the Civil Defence authorities, who after arriving at the spot and assessing the situation referred the case to the BSPCA.

The family then called in the society and Chairman Mahmood Faraj reached the spot and found the duck trapped in a sewer pipe.

According to the BSPCA statement, Faraj entered a hole filled with toxic odour and went down a dirty drainage pipe in an attempt to reach the duck and pull it up without causing harm.

“After about two hours, the duck was retrieved safely from the sewer pipe. It was given a thorough shower of fresh water and handed back to the family members who had been anxiously observing the rescue,” the statement read.

Dogs die as rescue efforts fail

In a separate incident, Nuwaidrat residents failed in their attempt to rescue two dogs that fell on asphalt.

A video circulated online had showed one of the dogs lying on the ground covered entirely in asphalt. In the video, a man was seen trying to help the dog with drink water. Both the dogs died before the local residents could seek professional help.
